The Bank of Jamaica began operations in May 1961, established by the Bank of Jamaica Law (1960). It issues notes and coins, administers Jamaica's reserves, and acts as banker to the Government. The Central Bank also influences credit supply and fosters money and capital markets in Jamaica. In 1985, it introduced the Financial Sector Reform Programme (FSRP) in collaboration with the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
